Tom Mills - Director and Head of Research
Tom is an experienced Team Leader and Project Director and has worked as an embedded adviser in natural resource ministries with governments in Asia, briefing heads of state on mineral policies and consulting on national resources strategies. He has presented at international conferences and published on mining and energy in a variety of academic journals and publications.
Tom has led and directed natural resource and energy focused consultancy projects for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the World Bank, The Department for International Development, and the Asian Development Bank. Examples of this research can be viewed here. Additionally he was part of the leadership for the Extractives Hub, an online knowledge repository for mining and energy used by over 32,000 people in 182 countries.
Prior to working in consulting, at Adam Smith International, Tom worked for African Consolidated Resources in the junior mining sector in Africa and Alfagates, an oil and gas field services company in Asia. He has additionally worked in corporate finance.
Tom has a first class degree, a subsequent master's from Oxford University and a mining and energy focused MBA, which he holds with distinction. Prior to attending university Tom was awarded a Gap Year Commission in the British Army. He is one of the youngest officers to ever complete both British and French Commando training.
